That was actually the best day ever.
OMGOSH I feel so rejuvinated.
Today was a super long day!
I woke up at 7:40, got ready, ate cereal. Then I walked all the way to kineseology class, where I learned about fetal formation of the heart (cool tings btw). Then I ran over to a boring math class where a prof couldn't properly explain to me CAST rule (I figured out why it was only one angle... the domain was restricted.) And then I hurried to bio, where I felt so behind LOL. But that's okay! AP TINGS lol.
Then I hung out with Rachel and Patsy in their LP common room (5th floor)after getting Soup and a delish sandwich. I love LP lol. It's like my 2nd home now :P. Just cause they're there i guess haha. But anyway, I then had chem with Rachel where we learned about orbitals, jumping electrons, energy, wave length, etc. And I was like ... what's chem LOL. But our teacher is super cool and we super like him.
Then AGAIN I walked over to LP and read my psych textbook with Rachel. We sang David Choi songs, she showed me sick youtube vids and I barely read 15 pages lol. Then I had to leave to talk to my RA again!
She told me I should get counselling for my stress. I totally agree. I will do so ASAP! but right now I feel so good! lol. I will continue. I went back into matthews, and talked with Julia for a bit. I rearranged my bed so I sleep on the other side now (haha we'll see what that's like) But basically, I finished my psych readings and I changed into "business casual" clothes (jeans and my nice forever 21 dress rofl). And then I was like UGH DO I HAVE TO GO :(. But I did
It was the 2nd year welcome for bio kids. and I was like... rly. Do I have to do this? But I went and some of the 2nd years have lovingly accepted me :P. The guys are still meh, but whatever. Who needs jerks ;) LOL. Anyway. So we grabbed food, arranged the tables, and I talked to the 2nd years about their programs, what they were doing, why they wanted to do it, what I should do, etc.
Then we went into the auditorium where they introduced some of the profs, and biosoc, and there was a little spleel from the Associate Dean of undergrads in bio (ooo)
Then we went out, there was a huge line up for food, so I didn't bother (esp since we're exec!) So I wandered, hoping to talk to a prof! Then I saw one! He was standing sorta alone! So taking this chance I was like YO HOMEDOG LOL.
I kid, I was like HI! I'm Tracy! :) Tell me about ur research and what you do! The first prof I talked to is Dr. Rollo (shoutout to ROlO!) and he told me that his grad students were now profs at mac (he didn't look THAT old) rofl. I told him my interests. And he said it's rare that ppl find their interests young and stick with it! (hehe). And he said since gr 5 he's LOVED BIOLOGY. And I was like omgosh me too LOL. He told me about his interest in insects and how he did his masters and undergrad at guelph (since it's the only place for insects) then he talked about how liking bugs and snails and working with mice don't get you any girls (LOOOL). And he told me about a girl he brought to the ARBORITUM (which I AM DEFINITELY GOING TO OMGOSH) where he made her close her eyes (all romantic rofl) and he put some seeds in her hands, and chickadees came to eat them. SHE LIKE WAS A BIRD-PHOBIC AND SHE FREAKED OUT LOOOOL. that's HILARIOUS. Then I thanked him for his time, grabbed the sub that was left (vegetarian eewww lol) But whatever! Then I just kinda awkwardly wandered with a plate of food. Again I saw someone by herself. I went up to her and said hi! It turns out she was only an instructional assistant but whatever! She was SO NICE! She's Romanian. She did her undergrad in ROmania and her masters in JAPAN! OMGOSH!!!!!! And I was like.. HI I"M FIRST YEAR TO lol. She was like OH! What are u interested in? I said I'll probably just stick with bio, but maybe physiology specialization. Then she was like... let me guess.. DOCTOR? I was like LOOOOOL ARE U KIDDING ME :). She was shocked lol. Which helped. I told her I LOVEEEEEED FIELD BIOLGY. And she's like. DUDE. I should intro you to ___ person!! She did. I was like HI! The guy was like HEY! Lol. So the prof she introed me to is known as the "bug man" And he was like so you like field biology? I actually run tons of those courses! You need to meet me in my office and we can talk about what courses you can take! and i was like ... ARE U FREAKING SERIOUS?! That's perfect! So now i'm going to drop in and say hi :) And we had a nice chat about what the field biology course is about, and I'm so totally stoked and I love bio so much, and i love how the profs love bio and i totally don't know why I"M SO PASSIONATE ABOUT BIOLGOY BUT I LOVE PEOPLE WHO LOVE THINGS TOO AND I LOVE HOW PROFS ARE SO INTO WHAT THEY DO!!!
And then I went back to the instructional assistant, and she encouraged me to work hard, not to stress, do my homework, and it definitely made me feel 100x better. I'm finally reminded as to why i'm here. I'm here to learn! Screw stress and everything. There's a time and place, but I should never forget what I love and why I'm here.
So I awkwardly moved on to the next prof, who i found out is teaching my bio course in october. So I awkwardly butted into a convo, where she was talking about her research in telomeres. It was so interesting. It reminded me of Jamieson so much (like how she just went on about stuff she loves) And it made me so happy listening. There was a... 3rd year student obviously looking for a study position with her (bwahaha) and he was like YO I LOVE MOLECULAR BIO LOL. So yeah. Then she stopped talking about her research, and let me introduce myself, and I told her I'm only first year and I wanted to say hi and that I loved zoology and field biology. She's like WHY NOT MOLECULAR BIO?! then she ranted about why molecular bio is great starting off the rant saying "I'm not trying to persuade you to take molecular bio... BUT" loool. And it was hilarious. I can totally say that today I was shunned by a molecular biologist professor LOOL.
That was so amazing and I'm so stoked to meet more passionate profs like that! (I only met 3!!!) and I will definitely hang around the life sci building now and say hi and ask ppl what they're researching and why. (of course, there's a time and place for that, hopefully there'll be another night I can meet more profs!)
i was initially so scared to talk to professors! But they are actually so nice and down to earth (lol not like that prof I shadowed in gr 7 LOL who basically forgot about me and left me with their grad student ;D).
But this just raised my spirits. I"M READY TO ACE MY KIN TEST TMR LOL.
And I'm so excited for 2nd/3rd/4th year!
I'm such a keener omgosh. But I'm ready to take on challenges, for the love of science? :P
We'll see (esp when physics comes next term D':)
But yeah. That was my best day ever <3
Extra note: Then I walked home (yes I said home) with my CA (residence person :3) and she told me about her involvement in bio and asked me how i thought that was, why I loved zoology. Then she told me she worked for the zoo and actually her friends did animal care. So I will definitely look into that (apply feb/march tracy to!) :)
I'm super stoked guys.
Also, probably have wrist problems now for typing so much LOL. And still eating my dinner :$ Barely ate in my excitement lol
Also, the field biology coordinator was so tall my neck hurts now.
=3
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy for you Tracy :) LOL that birdseed story! I should talk to more profs too...sigh
